Since chicken is a leaner healthy than red meats a question people often ask is: how long to roast a chicken. Well never fear true believers, provided below are instructions so easy it will be impossible to chicken out!

Sanitize

As a precautionary measure, when handling raw poultry it is absolutely essential to wash your hands and all utensils with soap and the meat itself with water and towels to prevent contamination.

Preheat

While sanitizing everything preheat the oven to 350º F (176ºC).

Giblets

After cleaning and drying the chicken, cut off all the giblets to ensure a succulent meal Also, check to make sure all kidneys and the liver is removed before roasting the chicken.

Seasoning

Once you have prepared the chicken to your satisfaction, apply your seasonings and place it in the oven.

Basting

To keep the meat moist and to prevent burning, remember to take the chicken out every 20 minutes and baste the juices and seasonings.

Roasting

The general rule with how long to roast a chicken is roast it 20 minutes for every pound of chicken you wish to cook. Also, make sure you use a meat thermometer (inserted half way through the chicken) to ensure that puppy is all the way cooked. A safe temperature to ensure that all the bacteria is dead is about 180ºF (83ºC)

Now that the chicken is roasted, take it out of the oven and let it sit for 15 minutes to cool off before serving. Then its time to grab your knife and start serving!
